Therapy Physics Services

Therapy Physics Services

In the complex environment of radiation oncology, accuracy, safety, and continuity of care are the cornerstones of successful patient outcomes. West Physics provides comprehensive, expert-led support to ensure your department operates at the highest technical standards while remaining in full regulatory compliance.

Clinical Support

West Physics provides continuous onsite technical support through ongoing clinical physics support on a weekly rotational schedule. Our physicists work side-by-side with your clinical team, including radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists, to ensure the uninterrupted, safe, and accurate planning and delivery of treatments. This support includes weekly chart reviews to perform required technical supervision of the overall treatment delivery, which can often be managed remotely to maintain continuity of care.

Supervision of Treatment Planning Services

Our specialized support ensures that treatment plans are accurate, efficient, and match the physician’s clinical intent. By providing real-time technical knowledge, our experts help your clinical team develop and implement optimized treatment plans while minimizing the risk of unscheduled downtime.

RSO (Radiation Safety Officer)

We offer vital technical and legal protection by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of state regulations and accreditation requirements, providing essential support to your hospital’s Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Department Head. Our team ensures that your department strictly adheres to both practice and accreditation standards, navigating the complex regulatory landscape to protect your organization.

Physics Services

Therapeutic radiological physics is a highly specialized branch of medical physics focused on mega-voltage radiation delivered by linear accelerators (Linacs). West Physics offers comprehensive, expert-led services provided by board-certified and/or board-eligible physicists (ABR, ABMP, or CCPM) who have completed CAMPEP-accredited residencies.  Beyond routine support, we offer specialized expertise in shielding evaluations and accreditation preparation for major bodies such as APEX (Astro), ACR, and ACRO.

Physics Commissioning

For new centers or equipment upgrades, we provide highly specialized initiation phase services. This rigorous, labor-intensive process includes acceptance testing, beam data acquisition, and end-to-end clinical testing to ensure your system is fully prepared for clinical use.  We also manage the preparation of comprehensive reports required by state agencies to issue formal regulatory authorization to treat.

Quality Assurance Services

Our Quality Assurance (QA) services include annual calibrations of your Linac and clinical processes, which is a legal requirement in most states. We perform specialized CT simulator QA, including flat tabletop verification, laser alignment, and large-bore optimization.  Furthermore, we verify mechanical integrity, such as gantry rotation and field size calibration, to ensure no “wobble” or sagging occurs under the weight of the machine’s shielding.

Radiological Audits

To ensure the highest level of accuracy, we perform beam data verification using water phantoms to scan and verify beam penetration against baseline values. This process ensures the machine delivers the intended dose with approximately 1% accuracy, providing the foundational data necessary for precise treatment modeling and delivery.

Go Live Services: Validating Before First Patient Treatment

Before the first patient is treated, we utilize advanced tools for patient-specific QA to verify that your Linac will deliver the plan exactly as intended. This “initiation phase” concludes with end-to-end clinical testing, ensuring that every component of the treatment chain is validated for safety and accuracy before the system goes live.
